International Sakharov Environmental Institute of Belarusian State University

Social and Humanitarian Sciences and Sustainable Development Chair was established in August 1992.

The Chair provides full-time and part-time teaching of social and humanitarian disciplines, as well as a number of special disciplines for students of 1-4 (5) years of all specialties of the Faculties of Environmental Monitoring and Environmental Medicine, as well as for undergraduates and applicants. The main purpose of the courses taught is to form the worldview and moral qualities of the individual, the culture of thinking and behavior necessary for working in modern conditions, and the education of patriotism.

The leading disciplines that form students’ environmental awareness and promote patriotic education of students are”History of Belarus (in the context of European civilization)”, “Environmental Law”, “Environmental Sociology”, “Economic Theory”, “Philosophy”, “Philosophy and Methodology of Science”.

The academic staff of the department consists of 10 people who have the highest qualification of specialists in the field of disciplines corresponding to the profile of the chair.

Tasks of the chair:

• Formation of the worldview and moral qualities of the individual, the culture of thinking and behavior necessary for working in modern conditions;
• Formation of students’ social competencies in the process of environmental education in the context of sustainable development purposes;
• Educate students be patriotic and have sense of social responsibility.

• improve the potential of the academic staff;
• improve the forms of educational and ideological work with students of I and II stages of higher education of the Faculty of Environmental Monitoring and the Faculty of Environmental Medicine.
